About Steven M. Darien

An alumnus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Steven M. Darien holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. After completing his undergraduate studies, Steven Darien attended Columbia University, where he earned an M.B.A. Over the course of his 30-year career, Steven Darien has developed expertise in strategic planning, board relationships, organizational development, and human resources management.

Currently, Steven Darien functions as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for The Cabot Advisory Group LLC. Steven Darien helps companies with succession planning, employee development, and human resources management and technology. The Cabot Group serves a diverse clientele, including such well-known corporations as AT&T, FedEx Freight, Marriott International, Inc., LendingTree, LLC, and Wells Fargo.

Prior to undertaking his role at The Cabot Group in 1996, Steven Darien operated as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Merck & Co., Inc. In this capacity, Steven Darien oversaw hiring, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, executive succession, HR technology, affirmative action, and productivity enhancement. In addition to playing a pivotal role in employee development and retention, Steven Darien also served as Director of Management Consulting Services. In 1984, the Chairman at Merck & Co. chose Steven Darien to lead a team involved with the Private Sector Survey on Cost Control. Also known as the Grace Commission, this initiative followed President Reagan’s appeal to combat inefficiency in the federal government. Serving as a leader of this project, Steven Darien functioned at the Pentagon alongside U.S. Army officials.

In addition, Steven Darien has received many honors throughout his career. In 1995, Steven M. Darien earned the CIO100 Award for Best Practices in Human Resources. Recognizing his tremendous success, Columbia University Business School, Harvard Business School, and UCLA Anderson School of Management regularly invite Steven Darien to share his expertise as a guest lecturer.

Immersed in his industry, Steven Darien belongs to numerous trade organizations, including the Human Resource/Learning and Development Advisory Board of the AMA-American Management Association, the New Jersey State and Employment Training Commission, and the Executive Committee of the Labor Policy Association. In addition, Steven Darien serves as Chairman of the John M. Olin Institute for Employment Practice and Policy and the WNET New Jersey Advisory Board.
